Play
The Russian Lesson is a three-minute scene excerpted from a staged reading of a play Gigi wrote. It was performed at Performance Works Northwest in Portland, Oregon by actors Michael Rohd (as Stepan) and Carolyn de Lorenzo (as Sophie). Nancy Wilson reads stage directions and Ted Schultz plays the father. The scene takes place in Crasukis, Russia in 1910, moments before Sophie has to abandon her beloved and forbidden Russian tutor for the promise of America.
