How to rehearse for in-person presentations

As we get back to presenting in person, there's a whole host of things to think about that we didn't have to think about when we were all presenting on Zoom.

One of them is the physical space that you’ll be presenting in. For example,

  • Where’s your audience going to be?

  • Are they going to be sitting in a little auditorium or they are going to be around a conference table?

  • How much room are you going to have to walk around? Is it the kind of thing where it's going to be so tight that you have to stand in one place or are you going to have room to spread out?

  • Where are you going to put your stuff? (I mean, on Zoom, I can have my tissues and my my water and my good luck charm in my notes, completely out of your view, but I'm gonna want all these things in may be more handy and where am I going to put them?

It’s best to figure this all out ahead of time. In my rehearsal room, I will even tape out the amount of space I have, so I can rehearse within that space.

Because the last thing I want are any surprises before I present, especially during a high stakes presentation.
